Gubbio

We visited Gubbio several times as it was our local centre.
It was beautiful, stony, harsh and hilly . And cold. The Palazzo dei Consoli was magnificent with its Piazza Grande and stunning views over the city.

We wandered the deserted medieval streets. There was no-one about and we were certainly the only tourists. Even the gelaterias had no gelati...it seems that the town closes at end of summer.

On the 11th we came into town especially to take the precarious looking 'funivia' (cable cars) up the mountain only to find that they were being serviced this week. So we walked the 2km to the top and were rewarded by stunning views of the city and lovely sunshine.
