San Gimigniano

After farewelling our hosts on Sunday morning (28th), we drove away from our farmhouse for the final time and headed south towards San Gimignano.
On arrival, it was pouring with rain....

and the city's famous towers were barely visible in the low cloud!
We ducked into 'il Quattro Gatti' for an unexpectedly good lunch...

delicious antipasti for Chiara, G and I; pappardelle all cinghiale (wild boar) for the other 3.
Then Chiara had pappardelle al cinghiale for her main, George had a grillia mista and me a scallopine al funghi.
We then ventured back outside into the rain to see what we could see......

The poor locals were trying to have their Sunday antique fair and a big BBQ in the arches behind George (would have normally been in the piazza) We could barely see the towers.....It was pretty funny....

looking down the well (full of coins of course)

A beautiful, wet, medieval city in a beautiful location.
We didn't hang around. Frozen, we jumped back in the car and headed for our hotel in Volterra
