Perugia

We came here for the chocolate. And the children were not disappointed as there were chocolate shops on every corner. We bought lots and they were very happy.

At dusk, the Piazza IV Novembre truly looked like a stage set. This is taken from the steps of the Duomo looking over the Piazza at the fountain and the Palazzo dei Priori which housed the Galleria Nationale dell'Umbria.
Here we saw much 13th,14th and 15th century Umbrian art; lots of gold leaf and many many more portraits and statues of the crucifixion of Jesus.
Chiara cleverly recognised the copy of Raphael's 'deposition of Christ' from the Borghese Gallery in Rome; the original having been swiped from Perugia by Cardinal Schipioni Borghese for his personal collection and this copy by Lanfranco commissioned and sent to pacify the raging Perugians!
